CAREER HISTORY
Masterkey International
1978 | Founder | Miami, Florida
Founded and launched Masterkey International in Miami in 1978, developing an integrated card-based business concept that combined consumer discounts, social membership privileges, mileage rewards and tokens. The program connected participating businesses and consumers through a common membership and purchasing framework, bringing several forms of customer benefit together within one commercial offering.
Incorporated on August 1, 1978, Masterkey operated from The Mutiny in Coconut Grove. Its September 25, 1978 advertisement in Florida International University’s The International announced a new credit card company and recruited the sales organization for its launch. The venture demonstrated Dr. Nouri’s early ability to originate a consumer business concept and organize its introduction to market.
Masterkey’s 1978 launch preceded the national introduction of Discover Card in 1986 by eight years. Discover was introduced by Sears, Roebuck and Co. through its Dean Witter Financial Services Group and later became part of Capital One Financial Corporation, which completed its acquisition in May 2025. This chronology places Masterkey among Dr. Nouri’s earliest commercial initiatives, combining membership, purchasing incentives and customer rewards well before Discover’s arrival.
Sheikh Abdul Qadir Idriss Mosque
1981 | Landmark Commission and International Relations | Seattle, Washington
Selected to deliver the Sheikh Abdul Qadir Idriss Mosque, a defining early milestone in Dr. Nouri’s international career that established important relationships in Saudi Arabia. Completed in 1981, Seattle’s flagship mosque was the first west of the Mississippi River designed in the Arabesque architectural style. Its architecture is documented in the Aga Khan Visual Archive at MIT.
The commission brought Dr. Nouri into direct dealings with the senior Saudi minister who commissioned the project. Financed by Sheikh Abdul Qadir Idriss, the mosque was overseen by his daughter, Ameerah, and her husband, Adnan Idriss, who represented Saudia Airlines in manufacturing dealings with Boeing. The undertaking connected Dr. Nouri with Saudi leadership and the Saudi–American aviation business community.
Upon completion of the project, Dr. Nouri visited Saudi Arabia as a guest of the Saudi government. This invitation extended the relationships formed through the landmark commission into direct engagement within the Kingdom, marking a significant step in the international development of his career.
Alexander The World’s First Talking Smart House
1989 | Creator and Inventor | Encino, California
Conceived and created Alexander, the world’s first talking smart house, a programmable, voice-command residence invented far ahead of its time and unveiled in Encino, Los Angeles, in 1989. The residence brought together fiber-optic infrastructure, computerized control and spoken commands within an integrated living environment. Alexander, its computerized butler, demonstrated a home capable of responding to its occupants at a time when voice-controlled residential technology remained far outside everyday experience.
The achievement anticipated a central feature of modern connected living: direct interaction between the resident and the home through voice. Dr. Nouri translated that concept into a functioning residence 25 years before Amazon introduced Alexa, bringing engineering, software and residential design together in a tangible demonstration of intelligent home technology.
The unveiling was attended by Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley and covered by the Los Angeles Times on March 1, 1989. Thirty-six years later, Residential Systems revisited the invention in its 2025 feature under the heading “The First Smart Home,” reaffirming the project’s place in the history of residential automation. Alexander, the world’s first talking smart house, established an early foundation for Dr. Nouri’s continuing integration of architecture, engineering and technology.
Cantieri Posillipo Shipyard
1990 | Owner and President | Sabaudia, Italy
Acquired Cantieri Posillipo from GEPI, the Italian government’s industrial restructuring and privatization organization, in 1990. The acquisition brought the yacht manufacturer into private ownership under his leadership and established a foundation for Nouri Group’s expansion in European shipbuilding. As owner and president, he expanded the shipyard threefold within three years.
GEPI’s industrial holdings had also included Maserati, placing the transaction within Italy’s wider transition from state-supported restructuring to private industrial ownership.
Olympic Marine and Crest Italia
1990–1991 | Owner | Greece and Italy
Acquired Olympic Marine in Lavrion, Greece, in 1990, adding sailboat and sailing-yacht manufacturing to Nouri Group’s European interests. In 1991, he acquired Crest Italia, also known as Crestitalia, in Ameglia, Italy, extending the group’s activities into naval and defense-related manufacturing, including vessels for the Italian Navy and patrol craft for international customers.
Together with Cantieri Posillipo, the three shipyards formed a manufacturing portfolio across Italy and Greece encompassing motor yachts, sailing vessels and specialized naval craft.
World Economic Forum
1991 | Member | Davos, Switzerland
Became a member of the World Economic Forum in 1991, establishing an institutional affiliation with the international organization known for convening business, government and academic leaders in Davos. This milestone coincided with Nouri Group’s acquisition and privatization of European manufacturers and the expansion of its shipyard interests across Italy and Greece. Membership connected his entrepreneurial career with a wider international business community addressing economic development, industrial change and cooperation between public and private institutions.

Banking and financial services relationships. Developed private-label distribution relationships with JPMorgan Chase and Union Bank of California. Integrated Wells Fargo merchant accounts, Capital One lending services and American Express small-business lending through National Cooperative Bank. Payment-processing integration with Moneris, affiliated with Royal Bank of Canada and Bank of Montreal, further extended the platform’s financial capabilities.
Technology and international distribution. Expanded through private-label deployments for Compaq and Cable & Wireless in the United States and United Kingdom. Distribution through PC Treasures placed Smart Business Plan and Smart Attorney in channels involving Dell, Gateway and CompUSA.
Business and technology recognition. Smart Online appeared in Forbes’ Spring 2000 Best of the Web coverage and its 2006 Best of the Web directory for entrepreneurs. PC Magazine featured the company’s small-business offering, and The Wall Street Transcript profiled Dr. Nouri’s leadership in 2004.

Each estate advances Nouri Group’s commitment to original design while retaining a character specific to its setting and owner.

Research Expertise and Biomedical Innovation
Neurovascular Biomaterials
His work on PPODA-QT and NeuroCURE examines polymer delivery, aneurysm filling, tissue integration and long-term implant behavior. In the 2023 canine study, the team reported complete neck endothelialization by six months, with no observed recanalization or compromise of parent-vessel flow. These preclinical findings provide a foundation for continued investigation.
Vascular Models and Thrombectomy
Research in this area integrates rheological and histological analysis of blood clots with the mechanical assessment of vascular-model materials. Conference studies extend this work to catheter forces, flow control, clot consistency and aspiration-tip geometry, informing laboratory models and comparative evaluation of thrombectomy devices.
Tissue Repair and Regenerative Research
His 2024 coauthored amniotic membrane study examines material structure and biological characteristics relevant to wound care. A separate case report describes umbilical-cord-derived mesenchymal stem cell injections for an anterior cruciate ligament injury. That individual clinical observation supports further investigation; it does not establish treatment efficacy.
Patents and Invention Development
Novel aspiration catheter to improve first pass effect. Named co-inventor with Timothy Becker and Holly Berns in Northern Arizona University’s technology-transfer listing, case 2021-051. The university identifies the invention as patent pending and available for licensing.
The catheter incorporates a deformable or radially compliant tip to improve the catheter-to-vessel ratio, with a balloon element providing radial expansion and proximal flow obstruction. The design aims to improve first-attempt aspiration, reduce repeated passes and limit clot fragmentation. Case 2021-051 is the university’s technology reference, not a patent publication number.
Reported pending portfolio. His professional website reports more than 84 pending applications: more than 15 in regenerative medicine and cell therapy, and 69 in medical technology, diagnostics and clinical decision support. These figures are self-reported; individual filing details remain proprietary.
Manufacturing Standards and Policy
His stated standards work includes authorship of the AASCM Standards for Stem Cell Manufacturing, described as a 12-part framework of approximately 40,000 words. Related priorities include independent facility assessment, adverse-event tracking and clinical outcome registries. Through the Stem Cell Advocacy Network, he advocates for scientific accountability and patient access.
